Occupy Toronto began October 15, 2011. Occupy Toronto is modelled after Occupy Wall Street. “Occupy Wall Street (OWS) is an ongoing series of demonstrations in New York City[7] based in Zuccotti Park in the Wall Street financial district. The protests were initiated by the Canadian activist group Adbusters.[8][9] They are mainly protesting social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the power and influence of corporations, particularly from the financial service sector, and of lobbyists, over government.[10][11][12] The participants’ slogan “We are the 99%”[13] refers to the difference in wealth between the top 1% and the other citizens of the United States.[6]”

OPSEU members, including our very own VP Jonathon Guider, attending the Editor’s Weekend joined the protesters today for a march to City Hall. They also visited “Tent City” in St. James Park where protesters have set up camp for a week now.
